Certified and Compliant 2012

Rocky Mountain Document Destruction holds a National Association of Information Destruction (NAID) membership and AAA Certification, which exceeds the privacy practices and safety standards of a non-certified company. NAID membership and AAA Certification ensures compliance and security at the highest level.

Our Goal

Our goal is to offer our clients exceptional and secure shredding services and give you peace of mind knowing a certified company is servicing your document destruction needs. Rocky Mountain Document Destruction provides competitive pricing by taking our client’s destructed materials directly to the recycling facility. Taking shredded materials directly to the recycling facility removed the middle man and can reduce costs significantly

Our Team

Larry Gibbons

Larry Gibbons

Managing Senior Partner

Larry Gibbons grew up in Holladay, Utah, where he learned the value of hard work at a young age. After maintaining a newspaper route, he developed a business idea to buy things and resale them for a profit. Larry purchased and sold many things, but specialized in dirt bikes and other recreational vehicles. While still in his teens, he learned the importance of buy low and sell high and supply and demand.

After high school, Larry attended Dixie State University and then committed two years to serve as a missionary for his church. Upon returning from his mission service, Larry attended college at BYU Idaho.

Before starting in the document destruction business, Larry had served several different roles in the waste and recycling field. He began with BFI in 1995 as a territory sales rep and worked his way up to a regional sales manager position working out of Scottsdale, Arizona. After 13 years in the waste business, Larry moved to the recycling side. He enjoyed saving people money through diversion efforts and making the world a better place by reducing waste. Seeing an opportunity to expand his business, Larry and three partners started Rocky Mountain Document Destruction in 2012. This business has had double-digit growth since the first year and continues to be a solution for document destruction throughout Utah.

To gain knowledge and experience about the shredding industry, Larry Gibbons completed coursework at The Shred School taught by Ray Berry. The Shred School teaches the document destruction basics and provides the National Association of Information Destruction (NAID) certification. NAID is the governing body that holds shredding companies accountable for sensitive document destruction. Companies agree to random background checks, drug tests, and a very detailed auditing process with the NAID certification. RMDD has to re-qualify every year for this certification.

One of the benefits Larry has enjoyed with this business is involving the whole family. He has taken every one of the kids to do shred jobs and helps them earn summer money by cleaning out recycling cans. His wife is involved in the day-to-day business and contributes time, insights, and effort.
Marvin Acey

Marvin Acey
Managing Senior Partner

Marvin grew up in Murray, Utah, a suburb south of Salt Lake City. He learned early to turn his hobbies into income, and his first job was at Mick Riley Golf Course. This job provided not only a wage but also free golf and access to some great people. Marvin enjoys camping, hunting, golf, mountain biking, and spending time outdoors with his family.

After marrying his wife Kim, Marvin took a job as a driver at a small recycling company called Utah Recycling. He figured this would be an excellent job to hold while he finished school. Marvin got to see many different aspects of this business as he worked his way through school and started his family. Through some hard times and long hours, Marvin attained his degree from the University of Phoenix in 1997 in Business Administration while still working for Utah Recycling.

In 1999, Allied waste acquired Utah Recycling; to Marvin, this didn't seem like a good fit. Some key members of management had plans to start up their own business. Marvin was fortunate to find a way into this group, and they formed Rocky Mountain Recycling in late 1999. This business had its ups and downs, but after nearly 21 years was sold to CellMark, with whom they worked in partnership for many years. Marvin stayed on to be the General Manager of the new Rocky Mountain Recycling Services Company.

During his time at Rocky Mountain Recycling, the partners had created value and some new entities; Rocky Mountain Recycling Holdings (2003), Paper and Plastic Partnership (2005), and Rocky Mountain Document Destruction (2012). In 2018 Marvin and Larry decided to buy out the other partners from the document destruction business and have been operating and growing it for the last two years.

Nearly 30 years later, the job Marvin thought to be temporary became a career that allowed Marvin many opportunities and provided for his family.
